We use multiple layers of Latex with different ILDs in every model and we quilt the top and bottom layers with 100% Natural Cotton and Wool. of mattress because it takes away the amazing latex feel, causes body impressions in the top of the mattress, and is not as healthy for you to sleep on. The result: When we ask customers and retail sales associates what our beds feel like, these are the words they use: buoyant, floating, uplifted.
Natural Latex Mattresses Are A Two Dimensional Material
Most people think of mattresses as being firm, plush or something in between. However, great sleeping mattresses actually are about being more than firm, medium or plush. Mattresses designed for great sleep have two necessary components; a support function and a pressure relief function.
Support is what holds you up. It is what keeps your skeletal structure aligned. Proper support means proper posture. If you wake up and need to stretch out, get the kinks out, or snap your neck, you may not have proper spinal alignment for almost a full third of your day. A lot of people believe that a bed should be firm to be good for your back, but support is only part of the story.
Organic Beds Natural Latex Mattresses
Pressure Relief is achieved when you sink into a mattress a bit. Sometimes it is mislabeled comfort. Comfort is personal and subjective, pressure relief is scientific and objective. It can be measured. In fact, in burn units and wheelchair cushions it is often measured. Proper Pressure Relief means blood flows to your extremities, which can keep you from tossing and turning as much at night interrupting your sleep. I read this fact the other day, when you lay on your side, your shoulders and hips have SEVEN TIMES more pressure on them than when you lay on your back. Sometimes, this is why people wake up with numb fingers, arms or feet.
Latex Mattresses are available in Classic, Natural Beds Organic
This is the most important point; a mattress needs to be both supportive and pressure relieving.
Most materials in a bed are either one or the other. For example, most coils are supportive. Most foams are pressure relieving. Fiber is neither, it is merely a filler to produce an aesthetic effect. Most mattresses have a combination of both coils and foams for that reason.
Natural Talalay Latex Rubber is different. Talalay Latex when used though out the mattress is both supportive and pressure relieving at the same time. It is naturally a two dimensional material. That means the more Talalay Latex is in a bed, the more supportive it is AND the more pressure relieving it is.
In traditionally designed mattresses, there is a tradeoff between support and pressure relief. The firmer the mattress is, the less pressure relieving it is. The softer it is, the less supportive it is. In Natural Talalay Latex Mattresses, you don’t have to tradeoff. You can have both. Natural Talalay Latex has uplifting support and bottomless pressure relief.
The Important Questions when buying a Latex Mattress
Shopping for latex beds can sometimes be confusing. Not all latex mattresses are the same – in fact, some aren’t even really latex! It’s important to compare the various models to make sure you’re getting the one you want. Here are some key questions to ask that will make shopping for a latex bed simple.
How many inches of latex rubber is in the mattress?
There are 11” mattresses with 3 inches of
synthetic latex in them (and the remainder foam or other things) and
there are 11” mattresses with 10”
of natural latex in the mattress.
There is a huge difference between the two, both from a construction and
a benefit standpoint.
Natural Latex Foam Beds are Good for the Environment
Natural Latex is both the healthy and environmentally conscious option. All our beds are made with Natural Talalay Latex Rubber, which starts as sap from the Hevea Tree. These trees have a 25 year productive life and a strong effect on the environment as they quickly absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and help reduce greenhouse emissions.
The Difference Between Natural Talalay Latex and Memory Foam
Both natural talalay latex rubber and memory foams are marketed as the premium materials for mattresses, but they’re hardly the same. In fact, the two materials are actually opposites in many ways. And your experience of sleeping on them couldn’t be more different! Here are some critical ways these materials differ from one another
THE ULTIMATE NATURAL LATEX MATTRESS
Natural Latex Mattresses - Relax & Relieve
The most important thing about natural latex mattress is that is helps relax muscles, which relieves tension. Spinal alignment is important when selecting a mattress but buying a mattress that helps muscles relax is equally as important. If we buy a mattress that creates pressure on our body, that pressure will cause our muscles to be tense and can even pull our spine out of alignment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a latex mattress need to be flipped?
Not really, but we make our natural mattresses completely reversible and quilted on both sides. 20-year warranty.
How do I shop for a natural mattress?
- Search out a natural mattress with the proper level of spinal alignment support for your body. When you lie on your back, you should not feel your back arch in the slightest way. If you were able to look at yourself from a distance, your head, hips and toes should all be in line with each other which probably means your shoulders and hips are settled into the mattress somewhat. There should not be space between your lower back and your mattress.
- Search out a natural mattress with the proper level of pressure relief for your body. When you lie on your side, you should not feel any pressure to your shoulder or hip.
How are Latexpedic Natural Mattresses different?
Latexpedic Natural Mattresses are 100% Pure Talalay Latex.
How long will a mattress last?
The materials used in a mattress determine how long it will last.
Fiber
Fiber takes a body impression and flattens more quickly than any other mattress material. Itʼs often quilted to the bottom of the fabric on top of the mattress. Fiber is simply padding and will always take a body impression over time. For this reason, our mattresses donʼt have fiber in a quilted panel.
Foam
There are many different grades of comfort foam made for home furnishings. Foam is a synthetic product that is comprised of chemicals and air.
Rubber
Talalay Latex is a renewable resource and made from the rubber tree. It is harvested in a manner similar to maple syrup. Talalay Latex provides pressure relief, comfort, and support. It is highly resilient, naturally antimicrobial and hypoallergenic. Dust mites cannot live in Talalay Latex which protects anyone who may be allergic to dust mite bi-products.
Coils
Coils are made from steel. This makes them extremely supportive and long lived.
How much should I spend on a new natural mattress?
You should spend as much as you can comfortably afford. But remember, when you pay retail or through designer showrooms you are sometimes paying 2X to 4X more!
Are all natual latex mattresses the same?
No. Inferior grades of Latex can be imported from different parts of the world. Our Natural Talalay Latex is made with pride in the United States. It is the finest Natural Talalay Latex in the world.
Is it time to replace your mattress?
The easiest way to know whether it is time to replace your mattress is to ask yourself how you slept last night. Although the Better Sleep Council recommends you replace your mattress every five to seven years, many people sleep on a mattress that doesn't fit them correctly. In this instance, you should replace your mattress even if it's not worn. If a mattress doesn't provide proper support for your body's spinal alignment, you will wake up in the morning with painful kinks and discomfort. You may also find yourself tossing and turning in the night due to pressure points caused by an incorrect number of relief layers on top of the mattress' support layer. Your mattress may also be too small!
Is natural latex “green”?
Natural Talalay Latex is actually a rubber-based material that comes from the tropical hevea brasiliensis tree. The Natural Talalay Latex process features natural, biodegradable ingredients that come from renewable resources and water-based raw materials: natural latex, air and water.
Our latex does not use solvents. It does not damage the ozone layer. Our natural latex is certified by Oeko-Tex (Europeʼs highest environmental consumer product standard) to be free of harmful substances or chemicals.
Is natural latex different from memory foam?
Yes, they are very different materials. In fact, they are near opposite materials.
Natural Latex is a naturally based material while Memory foam is a synthetic material derived from plastics. Natural Latex is breathable and tends to sleep cooler than memory foam which is extremely dense and activated when it is heated which typically leads to warmer sleep. You sleep ON latex, you sleep IN memory foam. Latex is a two-dimensional material; it is both supportive and pressure relieving, where memory foam is a one-dimensional pressure reliever. Latex provides 33% more pressure relief and support than memory foam. Natural Latex is an uplifting material and is bottomless while memory foam is a sinking material and has a maximum compression level. Natural Latex is a fast response material while Memory foam is a slow response material. Latex is breathable, antimicrobial and antibacterial.
Is natural latex durable?
Latex is one of the most naturally durable materials available. Derived from the tropical rubber tree, latex is highly resilient. Simply, latex lasts longer than foam or fiber.
Is natural latex healthy to sleep on?
Natural Latex is ideal for allergy sufferers. It is naturally hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant and antimicrobial, inhibiting the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew which are contributors to asthma and pulmonary function allergies. No artificial or synthetic materials are added to provide these benefits. If you have a latex allergy, be assured that non-skin contact products such as mattresses that may contain some natural rubber latex undergo a five stage washing process which removes reaction-causing proteins.
Our products have been tested by outside agencies and are shown to be inherently hypoallergenic for sufferers of mold, mildew or bacterial allergies.
What is a Natural Talalay Latex Mattress?

What size mattress is right for me?
The more space between two sleeping partners (and pets or kids), the more likely you are to get a good night's sleep. Did you know the average person tosses and turns 40-60 times a night? Research indicates that when one partner changes position, the other normally responds to that change within one minute.
Whats inside a mattress?
The top layer of a mattress is the pressure relief layer. Relieving pressure points on your body is one of the most important roles of a mattress. If your mattress reduces pressure points on your body, you are less likely to toss and turn, you will stay in REM and deep sleep longer, and you will get a more rejuvenating nightʼs sleep.
Why? If you are in a position that causes you to experience pressure points, your body will naturally respond by moving which can fragment your sleep. This is also why the mattress layer is most important to your muscular health. Pressure points interrupt blood flow and oxygen delivery to your extremities. Proper pressure relief ensures that your body receives vital nutrients to repair and restore itself all night long.
The top layer in all of our mattresses is Natural Talalay Latex, not polyurethane foam. Natural Talalay latex is up to 33% more pressure-relieving than conventional poly foam and fiber cushioning materials because it is more supportive and does not fully compress.
The center layer of a mattress is the support layer. This is the layer important to your bodyʼs spinal alignment. Without proper support, your back, hips and shoulders can work their way out of alignment during the night and you may wake feeling stiff, achy and tired. Our mattresses either have European type pocket coils or latex rubber as a support layer, the finest support materials available today.
The bottom layer of THE ULTIMATE natural bed and High Profile Natural Latex Mattress is the same as the top layer, as our mattresses are completely reversible.
